  • Plastic wrap
  • Cardboard
  • Straight pins
  • GAUGE

    Gauge is not important for this project.

    PATTERN NOTES

    Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

    Chain-6 at beginning of round counts as first double treble crochet and chain-1 unless otherwise stated.

    Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

    Chain-4 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet and chain-2 unless otherwise stated.

    HEART FRONT

    Rnd 1 (RS): Form a slip ring (see illustration), ch 6 (see Pattern Notes), ({dtr, ch 1} twice, dtr) in slip ring, *ch 2, ({dtr, ch 1} 3 times, dtr) in slip ring, rep from * twice, ch 2 (center bottom) draw slip ring closed, join (see Pattern Notes) in 5th ch of beg ch-6. (16 dtr)

    Rnd 2: Working in each st, sl st in each of next 7 sts, ch 1, sc in same ch-2 sp, sk next ch-1 sp, (ch 1, dtr) 9 times in next ch-1 sp, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp (center top of heart between lobes) sk next ch-1 sp, (ch 1, dtr) 9 times in next ch-1 sp, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp. (2 heart lobes)

    Rnd 3: Ch 4 (see Pattern Notes), [dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2] 3 times, (dc, ch 2) 3 times in next ch-2 sp (center bottom), [dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2] 13 times, sc in next sc (center top of heart), ch 2, [dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2] 9 times, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-4.

    Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc in same st, [2 hdc in next ch-2 sp, hdc in next dc] 4 times, 2 hdc in next sp, 2 hdc in next st (center bottom of heart), [2 hdc in next ch-2 sp, hdc in next dc] 14 times, sc in next ch-2 sp, sl st in next sc (center top between lobes), sc in next ch-2 sp, [hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next ch-2 sp] 9 times, join in beg ch-2.

    Rnd 5: [Sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk 2 sts, sc in next st] twice, sk 2 sts, 4 dc in each of next 2 sts (bottom point of heart), sk 2 sts, sc in next st, [sk next 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk next 2 sts, sc in next st] 6 times, sc in each of next 3 sts, sl st in next st, sc in next 3 sts, [sk next 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk next 2 sts, sc in next st] 4 times, join in beg st. Fasten off.

    HEART BACK

    Rnds 1-4: Rep rnds 1-4 of Heart Front. At the end of rnd 4, fasten off.

    FINISHING

    Steam-block Hearts. Pin with straight pins so the "V" of Each Heart makes 90-degree angle. Let dry overnight.

    Saturate Heart Back with fabric stiffener and pin to plastic wrap covered cardboard so "V" of Heart makes 90-degree angle. Let dry completely.

    Holding WS of Heart Front and Heart Back tog, matching sts of rnd 4, using Placement Diagram as a guide, sew Hearts tog A through B along lower portion of Hearts.
