Subsequent rows of Xtrl = tr in the second leg of tr from a row below, ch 1, crocheting in front of the tr just made, tr in the first leg of tr from a row below.

This part is crocheted/stacked on previous tr stitches from the row below. All chain sps are skipped.

How to crochet a market bag

Section 1:

Using MC

Round 1: In a Magic ring, ch 2, 12 hdc, join. 12 hdc.

Or ch 4, 12 hdc in 4th ch from hook, join—12 hdc.

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in each around, join—24 hdc.

Round 3: Ch 2, *hdc in next, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join—36 hdc.

Round 4: Ch 2, *hdc in next 2, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join—48 hdc.

Round 5: Ch 2, *hdc in next 3, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join—60 hdc.

Round 6: Ch 2, *hdc in next 4, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join—72 hdc.

Round 7: Ch 2, *hdc in next 5, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join— 84 hdc.

Round 8: Ch 2, *hdc in next 6, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join— 96 hdc.

Round 9: Ch 2, *hdc in next 7, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join— 108 hdc.

Fasten off MC, join CC 1

Round 1: Ch 2, in BLO, hdc in each st around, join. 120 hdc

Round 2: Ch 5 (counts as the first tr and first ch 1, here and throughout), *skip next 3 sts, tr in next st, ch 1, tr in 2nd skipped st, ch 1, rep from *to until the last 3 sts, ch 1, skip next 3 sts, sl st to the 4th ch from the beginning ch, ch 1, tr in 2nd skipped st, sl st to the top of the sl st to close the gap. 30 xtrl.

Section 3: Handle

Continue with CC2

Row 1: Ch 8, using the back loop only, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each chain across, turn. 7 sc

Row 2: Working into the front loop only of this row and the loop left from the foundation chain, sc in each st across, turning. 7 sc

Row 3: Using only the front loop of the current row and the unworked loop from the row below, sc across, and turn. 7 sc

Rows 4 until the end: Repeat Row 3.

Repeat the last row until your piece measures 25” or your desired length.

Finishing

Sew one end of the handle to any point on the bag opening.

Sew the other end of the bag handle to the opposite end of the bag opening.

Fasten off

Sew in all ends.
