Materials:
Red Heart 4 ply Yarn

Color A = Aran, Color B = Country Blue

Crochet Hook: Size F or size needed for gauge. Size G for edging.

Gauge: Each Square = 6"

Note:

Skill level: Intermediate.

Instructions for 7" square included.

Blocking: Block lightly & briefly with a warm damp pressing cloth on the reverse side of the square with a med-hot iron.

Pattern Stitches

Bullion Stitch (Bullion St.):

Yo 10 times LOOSELY, EVENLY, insert hook into next st, yo, draw up a loop, even with the 10 loops, yo, draw through all 12 loops, (wiggling the hook and rolling the yarn back and forth) - Bullion made.

Instructions

Beginning:

With size F hook and color A, ch 8, join with a sl st

Round 1:

Ch 1, 24 sc, join with a sl st.

Round 2:

Ch 5, sk 1, trc in next st., sk 1, trc in next st, ch 5, sk 1, sl st in next st., ch 5 cont. around. Join with a sl st in first sl st. FO Color A. (Four Angel Skirts made.)

Round 3:

Join in color B in back of sl st between skirts. Working behind skirts, ch 5, dc in same sp, ch 2, dc in same sp. *Ch 3, (dc in next back of sl st sp, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc) in same sp. Continue around from *. Join with a sl st in third ch of ch 5.

Round 4:

Ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 3, dc in center dc. Ch 3, sc in next dc, *ch 3, sc in next dc, work (ch 3, dc in center dc, ch 3) for corner. Sc in next dc. Continue around from *. Join with a sl st in first sc. Do not finish off. Drop Color B by pulling the loop up a few inches.

Round 5: Angel arms and body

Working in front of Round 4, join Color A with a sl st, ch 1 by inserting hook between 2 trcs of Round 2, and under ch 3 of Round 4. *In same space work (sc, ch 3, 10 yo bullion, ch 4, sl st). Ch 5, sl st in sl st between skirts, ch 5, sl st, ch 1 by inserting hook between two trc of Round 2 and ch 3 of round 4. Continue around from *, end ch 5, join with a sl st in first sp between trc's. Do not FO. Drop Color A by pulling the loop up a few inches and keeping to front of work. Gently pull angel arms away from the bullion body.

Round 6:

Working in back of Round 5, and on Round 4 sts, with dropped Color B, ch 6. Dc in next ch 3 sp, ch 2, dc in center dc, ch 2, dc in ch 3 sp, ch 3. *Dc in sc, ch 3 (behind angel), dc in sc, ch 3, dc in next ch 3 sp, ch 2, dc in center dc, ch 2, dc in next ch 3 sp, ch 3. Continue around from *. Join with a sl st in third ch of ch 6. FO Color B.

Round 7:

Angel Wings and Head:

With dropped Color A, ch 3, sl st in Color B ch 3 sp of Round 6 before angel, ch 3, sl st in same sp, ch 3, sl st in next dc, sl st in top of bullion. Ch 3, 4 dc in same sp. Remove hook from loop, insert in top of ch 3, insert hook in dropped loop and draw loop through, *ch 2* (this is ch 2 sp behind angel's head), sl st in next dc. Ch 3, sl st in next Color B ch 3 sp. Ch 3, sl st in same Color B ch 3 sp. Ch 3, join with a sl st at waist of angel, at base of bullion in sl st. FO Color A. Do next Angel in same way, joining Color A with a sl st at the right side base of bullion in sl st.

Round 8:

Join Color B in corner dc. Work (ch 5, dc, ch 2, dc in same corner). Working behind angel in Round 6 sts, *ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next ch 3 sp, in the same sp as wing sl sts in Round 7, but to the left of wing sl sts, ch 2, dc in ch 3 sp behind angel, ch 2, dc in next ch 3 sp, in the same sp as wing sl sts in Round 7, but to the right of wing sl sts, ch 2, dc in dc, ch 2. In corner dc work (dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc) Continue around from *. Join with a sl st in third ch of ch 5.

Round 9:

Ch 2, 2 hdc in next sp, in corner work (hdc, ch 2, hdc). Work 2 hdc in next ch 2 sp, hdc in dc. Work (hdc in ch 2 sp, hdc in dc), 6 times. Work 2 hdc in next ch 2 sp. In corner work (hdc, ch 2, hdc). Continue around. Join with a sl st in top of first ch 2. FO Color B

Round 10:

With Color A and size G hook, 3 sc in corner, sc across 10 sts, insert hook in *ch 2 sp* in back of angel head from right to left (counts as one loop) and in next st on working round, (yo and draw through 2 loops on hook), twice. Sc in same st and next 8 sts, (20 sc) 3 sc in corner. FO Color A.

Note: For 7 inch square, Round 11:

Work one round of dc in each st, corner (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp.

Finish off and weave in all ends.
