Materials

  • 3 metal mixing bowls - small, medium, and large
  • Screw and rubber mallet
  • White chalk paint
  • Black and orange acrylic craft paint
  • Paint brushes - wide and fine point
  • Floral wire and wire cutters
  • Miscellaneous decorating supplies - jute rope, ribbon, faux greenery, wood bark, hot glue

Instructions

  1. Start by poking holes into the bowls - so that they can be strung together later using floral wire. Use a screw (or other sharp object) and tap it *carefully* with the rubber mallet until a hole is formed in the rim of the bowl. Poke 2 holes (spaced about 1-inch apart) in either end of the small and medium bowls. Poke 2 holes (spaced about 1-inch apart) on only one end of the large bowl.

  1. Paint the outside of the three bowls with white chalk paint. This will take two coats. Allow the paint to dry 1-2 hours between coats.
  2. Use black paint and a fine point brush to paint the rim of the bowls. This does not need to be painted in a straight line, since you want the bowls to look like rustic enamel.

Once all paint has dried, string the three bowls together with floral wire. Run a length of the floral wire through both holes in two of the bowls. Twist to secure in the back.

  1. String a length of floral wire through the top of the smallest bowl as well - this will make the snowman easier to hang.
  2. Decorate your snowman with hat, scarf, and arms. Use whatever supplies you like. Here is what I used: Hat (bark, jute rope, and faux greenery attached with hot glue), scarf (ribbon tied in a simple knot), arms (jute rope and faux greenery attached with hot glue).
  3. Use black and orange paint to add eyes, mouth, carrot, and buttons. Let dry before hanging.
  4. String ribbon through the wire loop in the top of the smallest bowl. Cut to length needed to hang.
