Supplies You’ll Need
Tiny Wooden Hearts. These little wood hearts are so fun for crafting; I’ve had a supply of them for over a decade and have used them in lots of different ways.
Red Craft Paint. An acrylic craft paint is perfect for this project. It goes onto wood nicely and will yield a beautiful, saturated color.
Paintbrush. I keep brushes from this set on hand to use on painting projects for both me and the kids.
Krazy Glue or Glue Gun. I used Krazy Glue on these particular Valentine wreaths (this formula is great on wood and dries quickly). If you don’t have it on hand, a glue gun will work too.
Ribbon or Cord. I had some leftover gold cord from Christmas, but this would be pretty with any ribbon you like!
How to Make Mini Valentine Wreaths
- Start by deciding how many wooden hearts you’ll need in your wreath (or multiple wreaths). I made two, one with mostly red hearts and one with mostly natural wood hearts.
- Paint the front of any wood hearts that you’d like. We show red here, but choose your favorite color and go for it!
- Once the paint has dried, lay out the bottom layer of your hearts in the size and shape of your wreath. Each wreath will have two layers of hearts. In our bottom layer, we have 11 hearts and in our top layer we have 9.
- Once the bottom layer is laid in place, put a small amount of glue on the back of another heart and lay it across two hearts from the bottom layer. You’ll continue using the hearts on the top layer to adhere the hearts on the bottom layer in place, overlapping them so that they hold together.
- If you’d like to make a wreath like ours, adhere one unpainted heart to the top layer of your wreath as an accent. In a similar fashion, you can make a wreath of plain wood hearts with a single painted one.
- Allow all glue to dry and set.
- Adhere a small length of cord or ribbon to the back of your wreaths for hanging. You can also adhere a pin back instead, to make the wreath wearable.
