You can make a larger or smaller crochet item by using a multiple of 2 + 1 for the chain.

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, *dc in the next ch, sc in the next ch; Repeat from * across ending with a dc in the final ch. Change to color B in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: sc in the 1st st, *dc in the next st, sc in the next st; Repeat from * across ending with a dc in the final sc. Change to color A in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
