  • Or any weight #4 yarn
  • Hook: US Size (6 mm)
  • Yarn Needle, Scissors, Measuring Tape

Gauge: Not relevant

Sizes: Each square is 9” X 9”

Instructions

Chain 4, Slst to 1st ch to form a circle or use the magic circle method

Round 1: Ch 3, Dc 15 more st into the circle, Slst to Ch 3 to close the round (16)

Round 2: Ch 4 (counts as st+ch1), *dc 1 in next st, ch 1, repeat from * around to last st, and slst to ch3 from beginning

Round 3: Ch3, dc 2 in next ch 1 space, dc 1 on top of next dc, *dc 2 in ch1 space, dc 1 on top of next dc st, repeat from * to end of the round, slst to ch3 from the beginning

Round 4: Ch 5, skip 2 st, sc 1 in next st, *ch 3, skip 2 st. sc 1 in next st, ch 4, skip 2 st, sc 1 in next st, ch 3, skip 2, sc 1 in next, ch 5(corner), skip 2 st, sc 1 in next st, repeat from * two more times until you reach the ch 5 from the beginning, slst to the base of 1st st(where you started the ch 5)
Now we are going to square the circle- willow granny

Round 4: *(Dc5+ch3+dc5) in 1st ch 5 space, this is our 1st corner, sc 1 in next ch 3 space, dc 7 into next ch 4 space, sc 1 in next ch 3 space, repeat from * to form a square, finish by slst to the base of the 1st st to close the round

Round 5: Ch 7 (counts as dc + ch 4), skip to next ch 3 corner, (sc 1+ch3+sc1) in ch 3 space, *ch 4, skip stitches to next sc and dc 1 on top, ch 3, skip 3 st, sc 1 on 4th dc, ch 3, skip 3 st, dc 1 in next sc, ch 4, skip to the corner and (sc 1+ch3+sc1) in ch 3 space, repeat from * around, slst to 3rd ch from beginning to close the round

Round 6: Slst to ch space, ch 3, dc 4 in same ch space,* (dc 3+ch 3+dc 3) in next ch 3 space to form the corner, dc 5 into next ch 4 space, dc 3 in next 2 ch 3 spaces (skipping the sc from prev round), dc 5 in next ch 4 space, repeat from * to last ch 3 space, slst to ch 3 from the beginning to close the round

Finishing

Block the finished square. Secure the yarn, weave in the ends, and cut the yarn.
