Materials Needed

  • Worsted weight yarn (color of your choice)
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle

Bag Body

Foundation Chain:

Start with a slip knot.

Chain 38.

Row 1

Chain 1.

Skip the first chain.

Half double crochet (HDC) in each stitch across.

Row 2 and Onward:

Chain 1 and turn.

Work HDC in the back loop only across the row.

Repeat this pattern until you have eight "bumps" (total of 16 rows).

Shaping the Opening (Row 19):

Switch to single crochet (SC).

SC 14 stitches.

Perform a three-stitch decrease.

SC 4 stitches.

Perform another three-stitch decrease.

SC the remaining 14 stitches.

Chain 1 and turn.

Row 20

Slip stitch the first 6 stitches.

SC the next 7 stitches.

Perform a three-stitch decrease.

SC 2 stitches.

Mirror the decrease with another three-stitch decrease.

SC 7 stitches.

Slip stitch the last 6 stitches.

Chain 1 and turn.

Rows 21–22 (Shaping the Back)

Repeat the slip stitch, single crochet, and decrease sequence to shape the back of the bag.

Once done, cut the yarn leaving a tail for sewing.


Assembly

Use the yarn needle to sew the back of the bag closed by threading through the back loops.

Repeat the same steps for the opposite side of the bag.


Handle

Start with a slip knot.

Chain 5 (or 6 for a thicker handle).

Slip stitch around the chain to create a firm handle base.

Continue slip stitching until the handle measures about 33 cm.

Cut the yarn and hide the end inside the handle.

Finishing Touches

Attach metal rings to both ends of the handle.

Secure the handle to the bag using the rings.
