Size H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Gauge: 11 sts & 16 rows = 4” in single crochet on size H/8 (5 mm) hook
Pattern notes: Beret is worked in joined rounds from center top of crown down to lower brim, edged with a final round of reverse single crochet.

Special stitches:
Reverse single crochet (rev sc): Single crochet in each stitch as directed, working from left to right (instead of in the usual direction from right to left).
Beret
Note: Beret is worked in joined rounds. Do not turn at end of each round, but continue in same direction on every round.
Rnd 1: Ch 4, join into ring (or use disappearing loop beginning method: wind yarn around forefinger once, insert hook into loop, yo, pull loop through ring), ch 3, work 11 dc over strands of ring, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3, do not turn (12 dc)
Rnd 2: *Ch 5, sc in next dc, rep from * around, end by joining with ch 2, dc at base of beg ch-5, do not turn (12 ch lps)
Rnds 3-5: Ch 1, sc in same lp, *ch 5, sc in next lp, rep from * around, end by joining with ch 2, dc in beg sc, do not turn (12 ch lps)

Rnds 16-18: Ch 1, sc in same sc, sc in ea sc around, join with sl st, do not turn (48 sc)
Edging:
Rnd 19: Ch 1, work rev sc (see Special Stitches) in ea sc around, join with sl st (48 rev sc). Fasten off and weave in tails.
