DIY Popsicle and Pine Cone Bird Feeder

Creating a popsicle and pine cone bird feeder is a fun and engaging DIY project that not only benefits the local bird population but also adds a charming touch to your outdoor space. Start by gathering some pine cones and popsicle sticks, then assemble them with peanut butter and bird seed, creating a delightful treat for feathered friends. Hang your feeder outside and watch as birds flock to enjoy the homemade snack. It's a simple yet rewarding activity that brings nature right to your doorstep, making it a wonderful way to connect with the beauty of the world around us.

What you need:

- Popsicle sticks (32 small, 2 large)

- Paint and paint brush (optional)

- Beads for decoration (optional)

- Hot glue gun and glue

- Pine cone and peanut butter

- Twine

- Bird seed

Instructions

1. To make the base of the bird feeder, line 10 wooden sticks next to each other. The middle two popsicle sticks will be the 2 larger sticks that will allow the birds to perch on the feeder.

2. Glue one layer of wooden sticks around the perimeter of the base, overlapping the ends of the sticks.

3. Flip over the wooden base. Glue 2 wooden sticks perpendicular to the sticks. This will help hold the base of the feeder together.

4. Continue gluing the wooden sticks around the perimeter of the birdfeeder until it reaches your desired depth, or about 2-to-3-inches deep. Let glue dry.

5. Optional step - Paint outside of feeder or add any decorations, like beads, you want to the outside of the feeder. Let paint dry.

6. Tie a length of twine around top of pine cone, spread peanut butter onto pine cone and dip into bird seed.

Along the perimeter of the feeder, thread 2 pieces of twine under the wooden sticks.

8. Combine the 4 loose ends of twine and the piece of twine tied to the pine cone at the top of the feeder and loop into one knot.

Hang the bird feeder on a tree in your backyard, fill it with seeds and watch the birds flock!
