SUPPLIES AND SHOPPING LINKS

  • jute twine
  • wooden eggs
  • craft paint light brown and dark brown
  • craft paint brush or sponge brush
  • glue gun and glue sticks
  • scissors
  • silicone finger protectors
  1. First apply craft paint to your wooden eggs with a craft brush. I’m using a light brown craft paint covering each wooden egg.
  2. When the paint is dry you can start attaching the jute twine to the egg to create the acorn cap. I’m starting at the middle of the egg using my hot glue gun to secure the twine. (Be sure to wear silicone finger protectors if you have them.) Keep gluing and wrapping until you complete the cap then trim the twine with scissors.
  3. Once all the twine acorn caps are complete it’s time to apply a little dark brown paint to the twine. You can also touch up any paint on the wood section if you think it needs it.

When deciding on the best fall look for your home, you can paint these wood acorns in any shade you like. I’m loving the interesting contrast between the dark twine cap and the lighter acorn color, but you may wish to leave the twine as is.

I chose wooden eggs because I like their shape, and their weight feels more solid or durable. Although, you can also make these acorns using plastic eggs. It’s all up to you.
