Ch 31, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook and draw up a loop, [insert hook in next ch and draw up a loop] until there are 6 loops on the hook, yo, draw through all 6 loops, ch 1, *insert hook in “eyelet” at top of star and draw up a loop, insert hook in space between the 5th & 6th loops of the previous star stitch and draw up a loop, insert hook in the same space the previous star stitch ended and draw up a loop, [insert hook in next unworked ch and draw up a loop] 2X, yo, pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch 1* across, hdc in the last st, turn (13 stars, 1 hdc)

R2. Ch 1, hdc in first space, 2 hdc in each “eyelet” across, 2 hdc in last stitch, turn (28)

With White,

R3. Ch 1, hdc in first space, insert hook in the middle of the hdc and draw up a loop, insert hook in same space as hdc and draw up a loop, [insert hook in next st and draw up a loop] 3X, yo, draw through all 6 loops, ch 1, *insert hook in “eyelet” at top of star and draw up a loop, insert hook in space between the 5th & 6th loops of the previous star stitch and draw up a loop, insert hook in the same space the previous star stitch ended and draw up a loop, [insert hook in top of next hdc and draw up a loop] 2X, yo, pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch 1* across, hdc in the last st, turn (13 stars, 1 hdc)

Hold both shells together and sc x 9, working through both layers; stop and insert safety eyes between 5 & 6, leaving 3 sts between them, add stuffing, then sc x 9 (to finish joining the pieces together); Fasten.

With Red,

Start with crab facing you to determine left & right eye:
