Supplies

Pinecones
D rings
Power Tac Glue

This couldn't be any easier. All you have to do is glue the flat side of the D ring to the bottom of the pine cone. I'm loving this power-tac glue my cousin told me about. It works wonderfully.

Once it has a chance to set up overnight the ring is super secure. I used a little cup and placed the pinecone upside down and let the ring rest against a little cap until it dried. You could use egg crates and rolled up aluminum foil to make a whole batch of these guys.

Of course, if you are lucky enough to have these pine cones available in your backyard you should use them. Just make sure you soak them in some hot soapy water with a bit of bleach to kill any living creatures first. Also, the D rings come in a dark alloy color that you may prefer. I really don't mind the silver and the napkin hides most of it anyway.

As an added bonus the structure of the pine cone allows you to easily place a name tag between the scales to make a beautiful, personalized spot at the table.

These should last a long time, and I think they work for any special occasion. Certainly at the holidays, but I could even see them used for a nature-themed wedding reception.
