Supplies needed for this easy crochet shorts free pattern

Yarn – Use any worsted-weight yarn (#4) for your crochet shorts. The prototype was made using Stylecraft Aran, #4 (100% Acrylic, 382 yards per 7.1 oz/200g Ball)

5 mm Crochet Hook

Gauge

16 sts over 9 rows = 4’’by 4” made in xdc before blocking.

Go up or down hook size if necessary, to obtain a gauge.

Summer crochet shorts pattern

Section 1 – Band

Chain 122 (138, 152, 164, 182, 194, 212, 224, 242)

Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. 120 (136, 150, 162, 180, 192, 210, 222, 240) dc

Join with a sl st to the beginning of the chain.

Continue in rounds from here on

Round 2: Ch 3, *FPdc around next 2 sts, BPdc around next st, rep from * around, join with a sl st to the beginning chain. 40 (46, 50, 54, 60, 64, 70, 74, 80) BPdc, 80 (90, 100, 108, 120, 128, 140, 148, 160) FPdc.

Rounds 3 – 5: Repeat Round 2

Section 2 – Body

Round 1: Ch 3, xdc around, join with a sl st to the beginning chain. 120 (136, 150, 162, 180, 192, 210, 222, 240) dc

Rounds 2 – 12 (16, 16, 16, 18, 18, 20, 22, 24): Repeat round 2.

Repeating until your piece measures 10 (11, 12, 12, 13, 13, 15, 17, 17)”

Fasten off.

Section 3 – Leg Right

Crochet in continuous rounds, place the stitch marker and move after every round.

Right Leg

Join yarn with a sl st to the base of the chain made in section 3 above.

Round 1: Xdc in next 30 (34, 38, 40, 44, 48, 52, 54, 60) sts, dc in next 18 (18, 20, 20, 22, 24, 24, 26, 26) sts, xdc around the remaining sts. 78 (86, 96, 100, 112, 120, 128, 134, 146) sts

Repeat rounds 3 – 9 as with the right leg.

Fasten off

Sew in all ends.

Finishing

Join yarn with a sl st to any stitch on the waistband.

Round 1: Crab stitch around

Drawstring

Using the thermal crochet stitch.

Row 1: Chain 4, using the back loop only, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each chain across, turn. 3 sc

Row 2: Working into the back loop only of this row and the loop left from the foundation chain, sc in each st across, turning. 3 sc

Row 3: Using only the back loop of the current row and the unworked loop from the row below, sc across, and turn. 3 sc

Rows 4 – 98: Repeat Row 3.

Continue to repeat the last row until you have a piece long enough.

Last row: Ch 1, going through BOTH loops of the current row AND the open loop from the previous row (for three loops total), sc across.

Pass the drawstring through the spaces created by the post stitches on the band.
