I used Lion Brand Homespun (bulky weight; 98% acrylic, 2% other fiber) in Peony and Purple Aster.

You will need crochet hook size K-10.5 (6.5mm) and a yarn needle.

This pattern uses US terminology.

Stitches: Half-double crochet (hdc), Half-double crochet two together (Hdc2tog), Single crochet (Sc), Slip stitch (sl st).

Pattern

Ch 26.

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hk and each of next 24.

Row 2: Ch 1 and turn. Working in the 3rd (back-back) loop only, 2 hdc in first st, hdc in each of next 22. Hdc2tog once (or invisible decrease) at end of row.

Row 3: Ch 1 and turn. Continuing to work in 3rd loop only, hdc in each of 25 across.

Row 4: Repeat from Row 2. Switch to purple at end of this row.

Continue to repeat rows 3 and 4. One repeat in purple, two repeats in pink.

Stop when you have completed the 6th purple section.

Assembly

Using pink, slip stitch through both thicknesses to join the 2 short sides of the parallelogram together.

2 sc in same space to form top corner. Continue with slip stitches along the top of the hat to close it. Fasten off. Turn hat right way out.

Brim

Rnd 1: Pick up purple. Ch1. Hdc around bottom edge of hat. Sl st to join.

Place the stitches as evenly as possible so the hat fits your head. I made 47 hdc around.

Rnd 2: Ch 1. Hdc in 3rd loop only of each around. Sl st to join.

Rnd 3: Ch 1. Sc in 3rd loop only of each around. Sl st to join and fasten off.

Ears

Use yarn needle and small length of yarn to sew across top corners of hat and form base of ear triangles. Thread ends through to inside of hat and tie ends together to secure.
